Ed Baxter, who’s been off the air while recovering from a bad bout of pneumonia, has decided to leave his weekday Talk910 show and focus on family.  Listeners will be able to hear him as a fill-in host on the station, but not as a regular host with a specific time slot.

He has posted an announcement here:

You can still visit his site, The Talk Pod:

Oh well, I liked his show.  It was the only one I’d been listening to on that station.  The other shows are dreadful and Gil Gross, whose show I used to enjoy, has become so repetitive and trite that I can’t stand it any longer.  Same old stories, same format of him talking and taking up the entire show on, who else, himself!  And his useless wife on Fridays, that was it for me.  Awful programming.  Not to mention that torture of the same ad of some woman shouting about cars, playing over and over and over again.  I had to turn off the station more times than I had it on.

I’ve been listening to WOR710-AM New York instead.  Unfortunately, Rush Limbaugh has a three hour show there Pacific Time 9: 00am-12Noon.  Sometimes I’ll listen to the first hour but it’s too much Rush.  That guy is obsessed with himself.  He is always looking for his name in the news and brings up every slight mention of it.  The show itself is strange.  He sounds like a creaky old man, constantly clearing phlegm from his throat, rubbing his dry hands together so you can hear the dried skin scraping on-air, and the background noise of a fax or printer with pages being printed with that slow, chugging sound of an old ink jet printer.  You know the sound, cha-chug, quarter page printed, cha-chug, half page, cha-chug full page and whir – page released!  He says he’s fascinated with technology, but, apparently, not enough to spend any money on it.

After Rush is Sean Hannity.  I don’t mind his show.  He does more in-depth interviews than I hear from the others who focus on news-lite and silly stuff, thinking they are bringing levity to a show.  Listeners who enjoy talk radio do not enjoy lazy shows with stuff pulled off sfgate.  The thing about talk radio listeners is that they read and they see that same silly news before some host reads it verbatim on the air.  It’s wasting our time.

The downside of WOR is that all of the hosts have the same agenda.  It’s as if they all write up the same notes and bombard the audience with anti-Hillary rants or potential scandals.  It’s laughable but also too much, at times.

But it’s really the only thing out there right now.  I guess it’s good to know the game plan of the right and the rhetoric they are feeding to people.  Just don’t know how much of it I can listen to before the election.

Here’s the link to WOR710-AM NY if you want to listen to it.  I enjoy Mark Simone’s show, he has a smooth style and a natural, fun interactive style with his callers and guests:

Mark Simone also posts some fun videos on his page.  Here’s one about the difference between the brains of men and women:

And, here’s another one about on air meltdowns by newscasters:

http://www.wor710.com/onair/mark-simone-52176/some-great-on-air-meltdowns-by-13517868/

Speaking of meltdowns, when is Talk910 going to get it together and actually present some decent programming?  What a waste of a talk station, what are they thinking?  They don’t let listeners speak and they don’t let their ratings rise above the 0.5 mark.  They seem to be fine with that.  They might be, but we, the listeners, are not.

That’s all I got…

There is an interesting discussion at ba.broadcast in Google Groups about the recent departure of Karel on the KGO schedule.  I read all of this second-hand since I do NOT care about nor do I listen to any Cumulus stations run by Dick..eys.

Here’s a link to the discussion:

There’s another discussion about Angie Coiro as well:

This is the new go-to place for me.  That other blogger guy is too inconsistent and bombastic to be believable.  No time to waste with that.  I like to read David Kaye’s comments about things.

Here’s a link to Angie’s Wikipedia Page:

Also, in the Karel discussion, they talk about hiring programmers.  Been through that as well.  It’s why I started to learn how to code and all of the framework that goes with it.  It really is the language of the future.  But, I can understand why some coders would not want to attempt to construct a simple database search with results showing in a scrollable text box.  Something as simple as that is auto-coded into programs now and it’s surprising how many don’t know the basics of the code behind.  One thing I do know: the more I learn, the more I know how much I don’t know.  But, it’s fun and it helps to understand what is viable when meeting with programmers about projects.  There are programmers out there who learn as they go – on your dime, of course.

As for Angie Coiro, I was unfamiliar with her, but I heard her on Talk910-AM when she filled in for Ed Baxter.  Why don’t they give her the 1:00-3:00pm slot?  That is a lot of dead air right now, with those two terrible hosts on-air there now.  But, surprisingly, I am happy listening to Sean Hannity on New York’s WOR-710.AM (http://www.wor710.com/main.html).  He takes calls and I get to hear the conversation we will all hear in the upcoming election.  Better to hear it now and prepare for it.  It’s going to be a dirty slugfest.  But it’s also interesting how all of these conservative hosts hate Jeb Bush.  He was even booed when Hannity mentioned his name.  Interesting…

That’s really all I have to say, today.
